register for the conference, go to tinyurl.com/advocate2020 This conference is being organized to give people the tools they need to focus their efforts most efficiently to effect the political changes they wish to see in our community, state, and country. Our democracy requires us to use a variety of tools to keep our government open, its workings transparent, and our rights protected. More and more it seems as if these tools are becoming pointless in the face of the huge amounts of money large corporations and the wealthy are able to spend to protect their interests. We can resist through sharpening our skills for advocacy. |

Civil Conversations: Many of us are unprepared to handle conflict as we interact with people who don't think (gosh darn them!) as we do. How can we listen, learn, and make our side of the case without raising our voices, being shouted down, and creating even more animosity than already exists? Dr. Grace Coggio, Communication Studies Director at UW-River Falls and Krista Cleary, CNM, will present a workshop to teach us to have civil conversations with people who are of differing viewpoints. |

Tools for Effective Advocacy: Analiese Eicher, executive director of One Wisconsin Institute/One Wisconsin Now, will present a workshop to teach us to use our voices effectively, whether in letters to the editor, knocking on doors, or using social media. One Wisconsin Institute is a non-profit, non-partisan research and education organization dedicated to, among other things, fighting the trillion-dollar student-loan debt crisis and protecting the right to vote. |

Doug Kane, author of the new book of essays, Our Politicsand husband of former State Senator Kathleen Vinehout. Doug will talk about organizing effectively for change. His methods are time-tried and might even be called old school, but they work. |
